Rising through the ranks of the London folk scene, Josienne Clarke is now one of the leading lights in the current folk revival movement. Having released her debut album, “One Light Is Gone,” late 2010, reviewers are already praising her vocal and songwriting talents with comparisons to June Tabor and Sandy Denny. She has performed alongside many great folk musicians including Martin Simpson, Ric Sanders of the Fairport Convention, Kami thompson, Emily Portman, Mary Hampton and Emily Barker
Raised in a family of untrained but enthusiastic singers Josienne's childhood was peppered with song. Aged 16 she began classical singing lessons the influence of this training can clearly be heard in her vocal delivery. Whilst at university in London she began to perform regularly on the london circuit all the while honing her song writing talent. The result is sincere and succinct songwriting, distilled through traditional folk, executed with skill and dexterity.
Josienne's songwriting and performing cohort, Ben Walker, studied classical guitar, then took to playing the electric in a number of bands, before finally returning to the realms of fingerstyle guitar. One of the most accomplished guitarists on the london folk scene- performing on both steel and nylon string acoustic guitar, and mandolin. Influenced by the likes of Martin Simpson, Bert Jansch, Pierre Bensusan and Richard Thompson, Ben's playing and arrangements add an additional dimension to Josienne's already sculpted sound.
The debut Josienne Clarke album, “One Light Is Gone” is available now.
